Perennial with prostrate woody base and erect flexuous glabrous flowering stems, up to 30 cm tall. Leaves exstipulate, alternate, linear-acicular, the margins sometimes setose, the upper leaves much reduced to small bracts in the laxly 3-5-flowered inflorescence. Pedicels long, 1·5-2 x the calyces. Capsules 3 seeded, much exceeded and completely enclosed by the blunt, accrescent, membranous sepals, the seeds densely subfoveolate. Fl. 5-6. Dry calcareous hills and steppes, 800-2100 m.
