Biennial, 50-200 cm, shortly adpressed whitish or yellowish tomentose, eglandular. Stem thickish, angled, usually branched above. Basal leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 20-50 x 3-13 cm, crenate to crenulate, petiole winged, 2-4 cm; cauline numerous, smaller, upper ovate to cordate, ± caudate. Inflorescence dense or lax, branched, forming oblong-pyramidal panicle; flowers 3-9 in crowded or remote clusters. Bracts 5-30 mm, ovate to ovate-lanceolate, acuminate or caudate; bracteoles 2. Pedicels 3-12 mm. Calyx 6-12 mm, lobes narrowly triangular-Ianceolate, acuminate. Corolla yellow, 20-40 mm diam., without pellucid glands, pubescent outside. Stamens 5, filaments with whitish-yellow wool up to anthers, 2 anterior with anthers decurrent, 2,5-3,5 mm, rarely indistinctly decurrent, 2 mm. Capsule ovate-elliptic, 6-8 x 4-5 mm, stellate-tomentose. Fl. 6-8. Riversides, pastures, Pinus nigra forest, 1600-2600 m.
