Glabrous subshrub up to 20 cm. Leaves alternate, 10 x 2,5 mm, semicircular in section, obtuse or weakly acute, somewhat amplexicaul and decurrent; bracts similar but smaller. Inflorescences 10-12 cm, terminal, simple or branched with talked or sessile short thick cone-like spikes at the ends of the branches in which the flowers are spirally arranged, sunk in hollows separated by thick walls, hermaphrodite or polygamous. Perianth segments united, the perianth almost completely closed, saucer-like above, with a distinct margin all round, at last spongy. Stamens 2. Ovary compressed laterally. Stigmas 2. Pericarp membranous. Seed erect, papillose; embryo ring-like; radicle inferior. Monotypic. Fl. 5-6. Open halophyte vegetation, 940 m.
