Biennial or perennial, stem erect, 110 cm or more, branched in the upper part. Levaes thin, papery when dry, subglabrous; basal very large, oblong with 1-2 pairs of ± falcate lobes at base, petiolate, median oblong, c. 15 x 5 cm, decurrent, upper lanceolate, decurrent. Capitula numerous, 2-3 nearly together at the end of stem and several short branches. Involucre c. 2,5 cm long. Appendages large, concealing basal part of phyllaries, straw-coloured, lanceolate, with 12-14 cilia on each side, ending in a short spinule. Flowers and achenes onknown. Fl. 7-8Alt. C. 150 m.
