Corm tunic membranous or coriaceous, splitting into rings at base, rings entire or toothed. Leaves 3-7, synanthous, 0.5-1 mm broad. Prophyll absent. Bracteole present, narrower than bract. Throat of perianth yellow or white, glabrous; segments 0.9-1.5 x 0.3-0.7 cm, pale yellow, pale lilac-blue or white, usually speckled outside with grey or purple. Filaments 2-3 mm, yellow or white; anthers 6-8 mm, yellow, sometimes with black basal lobes. Style dividing into 3 expanded yellow or orange branches. 2n =8. Fl. 2-3. Open hillsides, scrub, beneath Pinus, 950-2000 m.
