Leaves 3-8, to 7 cm x 0.6-1 mm diam., erect or adpressed. Scape not produced above ground at flowering time, 1-3-flowered. Pedicels short. Bract 6-13 mm, herbaceous, tinged purple or speckled red-brown. Bracteole almost entirely membranous, usually densely speckled. Perianth pale lilac or pale violet to whitish, usually dark-veined, 0.9-1.5 cm; tube 2.5-4 mm, throat usually yellowish; segments lanceolate to oblanceolate, acute. Filaments often glabrous, top of anthers reaching c. halfway up perianth segments. Stigmas held below top of anthers. Fruiting scape to 5 cm above ground. Capsule subglobose-triquetrous. Fl. 3. Open grassy places in macchie, river banks, nr s.l.-10 m.
