Annual hirtellous herb. Stem erect, 10-25 cm, stiffly branching at 45 degrees at least the short axillary branches spinescent. Leaves linear to elliptic-oblanceolate, toothed, upper ones oblanceolate entire or toothed, overlapping flowers, sometimes incised-serrate. Flowers 1-2 in axils of ± distant upper leaves, associated with spinescent branchlets. Pedicels short , Calyx gibbous, 6-7 mm, bilabiate, upper tooth ovate-orbicular, spinulose, recurved, 4 lateral and lower teeth triangular-subulate, spinescent, Corolla whitish, resupinate, slightly longer than calyx. Nutlets c. 1.5 mm, smooth, glabrous. Fl. 5-6. Calcareous clay, nr s.l.
