Erect stoloniferous perennial; stems 15-60 cm, terete without raised lines though often with 2 lines of hairs. Leaves linear-lanceolate to lanceolate, 2-7 x 0.4-1 cm, crisped hairs restricted to margins and veins, entire or obscurely dentate, sessile with a cuneate base. Inflorescence drooping in bud, usually eglandular. Flowers whitish to pale pink; petals 4-8 mm; stigma entire. Capsule 5-8 cm; seeds elliptic-attenuate, 1,6-2 mm, finely papillose. Fl. 7-9. Marshy ground, etc., 600-2440 m.
