Plant 20-40 cm. Stem slender with 2-4 oblong-lanceolate obtuse basal leaves. Spike dense or rather lax. Flowers dark red to mauve. Sepals and petals uniformly brownish green inside with red dots. Lateral sepals slightly spreading. Labellum broadly obovate, c. 10x 8 mm, deeply 3-lobed, with rose or purple dots mainly nearbase;laterallobes ±ovate, often reflexed; middle lobe obovate, truncate, margin ± crenulate in front. Spur shortly cylindrical-obtuse to conical-acute, shorter than ovary. Fl. 4-5. Open. montane Pinus forests, alpine meadows, on extremely calcareous soils, 500-2100 m.
