Diffuse annual herb, 8-25 cm, much-branched. Leaves ovate to elliptic-oblong, to 3.5 x 1.6 cm, Inflorescences globose or of two axillary clusters, to c. 7 mm diam. Bracts linear to linear-lanceolate, free or ± fused below. Male and hermaphrodite flowers similar, hermaphrodite flowers only slightly accrescent. Female flowers usually most numerous, slightly exceeding longest bracts, perianth segments narrowly  lanceolate, c. 1.75 mm, connivent above to enclose fruit. Fl. 2-8. Walls, rocks and rocky slopes, open or shaded, 30-1800 m.
