Stems thin to medium, pale yellowish to reddish. Inflorescences 5-13 mm diam., usually many-flowered, dense. Flowers 2,5-3,5 mm, sessile or subsessile, white, smooth, 5-merous. Calyx about as long as to longer than corolla tube, campanulate partly membranous, lobes usually as long as tube , triangular to ovate or almost obovate, fleshy or even turgid towards ± acute, pointed apex, often golden-yellow or brownish, shining and finely netted with prominent veins when dry. Corolla lobes shorter than to almost as long as tube, narrowly triangular-ovate to ovate-suborbicular, membranous or somewhat thickened towards shortly apiculate apex, subacute to obtuse, patent in fruit. Anthers scarcely exceeding tube, shorter than to ± as long as narrow filaments. Scales reaching stamens, oblong or spathulate to oblong-ovate or obovate, bifid or simple, shallowly fimbriate at apex. Styles ± as long as or slightly shorter than the thin stigmas, together as long as or generally longer than ovary. Capsule 1,5-2,5 mm, irregularly ovoid or obovoid to depressed-globose. Seeds 1-1,3 mm, 4 per capsule, ovoid, finely scabrous. Fl. 6-8. On various species , annual weeds and hemicryptophytes, sometimes on shrublets, in irrigated and fallow fields, nr s.l.2000  m.
