Dwarf cushion-forming shrub, 5-15 cm. Leaf rachis spiny, 1-3 cm, straight. Leaflets 3-6 mm, narrowly elliptic, spine-tipped, white, spreading- or adpressed-simple-pilose, 4-6-paired. Stipules 7-9 mm, triangular-ovate, white-pilose. Flowers sessile, c. 3 per leaf axil. Inflorescence globose, 2-3 cm diam., 5-20-flowered. Bracts 7-13 mm, oblong-lanceolate, keeled, sparsely pilose towards the apex. Bracteoles 10-13 mm, linear, densely pilose, resembling the calyx lobes. Calyx 9-13 mm, densely pilose; lobes divided to the base though sometimes apparently forming a tube up to c. 4 mm. Flowers pink; standard 13-15 mm. Style hairy, Fl. 5-7. Steppe, woods, etc., 900-3000 m.
