Dioecious perennial, usually with few lax rosettes. Basal leaves 1-2-pinnatisect, blade ovate to narrowly oblong, 2-13 cm, primary segments varying from shortly pinnatifid to deeply 2-pinnatisect, adpressed-pilose, canescent or sub-sericeous, usually eglandular. Stems simple or sparsely branched, prostrate or ascending, hirsute or canescent. Sepals 4.5-7 mm in flower, usually pilose and glandular-pubescent; awn 0.2-2.8 mm. Petals obovate, 1-2½ x sepals, white, pink or lavender-blue. Beak of fruit 4-7 cm, stout.
