Perennial herb, suffruticose. Stems ascending to c. 50 cm, unbranched, retrorsely eglandular-pilose to pubescent, with or without villous hairs. Leaves pinnatisect with an oblong elliptic terminal segment c. 2-4 x 0.4-0.6 cm and two smaller pairs of lateral segments, pilose with sessile glands, not rugose, entire to serrulate; petiole 0.7-2.6 cm, ciliate. Verticillasters4-10-flowered, approximating or not. Bracts ovate-acuminate, 7-12 x 3-5 mm; bracteoles present. Pedicels 4-7 mm. Calyx campanulate, 10-15 mm, to c. 12-17 mm in fruit, pilose to villous with numerous sessile glands, often strongly violetcoloured. Corolla lilac-pink to violet, 20-24 mm; tube c. 14.mm, annulate; upper lip straight. Stamens A. Nutlets round trigonous, ovoid, c. 3 x 2.2 mm. Fl. 6-8. Rocky limestone and igneous slopes, in Quercetum screes, loamy hills, fieldsides, 500-2350 m.
