Rigid annual, 5-50 m. Stems ridged. Lower leaves spathulate, median leaves oblong, 1-3 cm, with stipular glands, 1-3-nerved, margins and often the nerves scabrid. Cyme dichotomous, widely spreading, bearing very shortly pedicellate flowers. Sepals linear, 11-13 mm, scabrid-margined. Petals yellow, 17-20 mm. Capsule 5 mm, indehiscent. Fl. 4-6. Rocky, often calcareous hillsides, fallow fields and waste ground, s.l.-1100 m.
