Rigid 5-50 cm annual. Leaves alternate, lanceolate-linear, 1-2,8 cm, scabrid. Flowers crowded on axillary branches, very shortly pedicellate and usually overtopped by the adjacent leaves. Sepals lanceolate-acuminate, 4,5-6 mm, glandular-margined. Petals 7-8 mm, coherent, yellow. Capsule 2-2,5 mm. FI. 4-5. Rocky slopes, fallow fields, s.l.-900 m.

1. Flower crowded on very short branches, forming a spike-like panicle var. spicatum
Distribution of species: S. Europe, N. & E. Africa, S.W. Asia eastwards to W. Pakistan.
