Usually larger than V. polita from which it differs by the following characters: stems 10-50 cm, sometimes rooting at base ; petiole 1-8 mm; lamina 10-20 x 9-18 mm, brighter green, ultimately blackish when dry, never subglabrous nor shining, hairs more robust; margin crenate-serrate, not revolute; pedicds 15-22 mm, 1-2 x bracts, with longer spreading hairs; calyx lobes lanceolate to elliptic, 5-6 x 2-2,5 mm in fruit, scarcely overlapping laterally, remaining herbaceous;corolla blue, 8-14 mm diam.; style 1,8-3 mm;capsule compressed, 4-6 x 8-10 mm, 2-lobed, veins prominent, keel distinct, sinus obtuse-angled, sparsely pubescent to glabrous, with or without glandular hairs; seeds c. 14-18, 1,6-2,2 x 1-1,5 mm, less distinctly cymbiform, more irregularly rugose-reticulate. Fl. 1-12. Cullivated land, banks, roadsides, wasle places, s.I.-700 m. 
Probably native in Caucasia and S.W. Asia; widespread as a weed in Europe, N. Africa, C. Asia,Japan, America and New Zealand.
